Privacy Policy

DerNexus Solutions ("DerNexus", "we", "us") is a Calgary, Alberta consulting practice. This policy explains what personal information we collect through dernexus.ca, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
What we collect
Information you give us
When you use the contact form on this site, you provide your name, email address, business name, the situation you pick from the list, and the message you write. Two fields are optional: a link to your website or LinkedIn page, and how you heard about us, picked from a short list. You only share this if you choose to contact us.
If you open the contact form from a link in a Fix Guide we sent you, the form also sends a short reference code that was in that link. The code identifies the guide you received. We use it only to match your inquiry to that guide. It goes to Formspree along with the rest of the form, and we do not share it with anyone else.
Information collected automatically
Our contact form is handled by a third-party service, Formspree. When you submit the form, Formspree records the technical details that come with any web request, including your IP address, browser and device information (user-agent), and the date and time of submission. This helps deliver your message and reduce spam.
We also use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site, for example which pages are visited and roughly where visitors come from. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects usage data in a pseudonymous form. It does not tell us who you are by name.
Why we collect it
- To read and respond to your inquiry, and to provide the consultation or service you ask about.
- To keep basic records of our business communications.
- If you tell us how you heard about us, to learn which channels bring us clients.
- To understand and improve how the website performs.
- To protect the site against spam and abuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Your consent
By submitting the contact form, you consent to us collecting and using the information described above for the purposes listed. You can withdraw your consent at any time (see Your rights below). Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer respond to an open inquiry.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses cookies only for Google Analytics. You can refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using Google's browser opt-out add-on. Blocking these cookies does not affect your ability to use the site or to contact us.
Where your information is processed
We use a small set of service providers to run this site and our business, and some of them are outside Canada. When you submit a form, book a consultation, or pay an invoice, your information may be stored and processed on servers outside Canada, where it may be accessible to those providers and to authorities under the laws that apply there. This table lists every provider that touches personal information collected through this site, the country involved, and why:
- Formspree (United States): receives and forwards contact-form and fix-guide-request submissions.
- Stripe (United States): processes payment information if you pay an invoice or deposit online.
- AI vendors we use to help draft and review client work (United States): may process business correspondence that references your name or business, as part of how we deliver consulting services.
- Cloudflare (global edge network): delivers this website and its analytics/security features from data centres around the world, including outside Canada.
- Zoho (Canadian data centre): hosts our business email, so email correspondence with us is stored in Canada.
- Google Analytics (United States): described above, under Cookies and analytics.
We use these providers because they are widely trusted, and we want you to know exactly where your data goes rather than describe it in general terms.
Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA)
If you are located in Alberta, or your information is collected, used, or disclosed in Alberta, we also handle it in line with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), Statutes of Alberta 2003 chapter P-6.5. PIPA requires us to name the person responsible for our compliance and to tell you, in advance, which countries our foreign service providers operate in and why (PIPA s. 6(2) and s. 13.1).
Our privacy officer
Under PIPA s. 5(3), DerNexus Solutions has designated Sean Derondeau as the individual responsible for ensuring our compliance with this Act. Direct any PIPA question, access request, or complaint to him using the contact details below.
Foreign service providers, by country and purpose
The table above under "Where your information is processed" is the same list PIPA s. 6(2) requires: the countries our service providers operate in, and the purpose each one serves. Before or when you submit a form on this site that reaches a service provider outside Canada, we point you to this policy so you can review that list before you submit. That is the notice PIPA s. 13.1 requires.
How long we keep it
We keep contact-form submissions only as long as we reasonably need them to respond to you and to maintain our business records, after which they are deleted. You can ask us to delete your information sooner at any time. Analytics data is retained according to Google's standard retention settings.
How we protect it
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access. The site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No method of transmitting information over the internet is ever completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA, and under PIPA if you are in Alberta, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Withdraw consent and ask us to stop using your information.
- Request deletion of your information.
To make any of these requests, contact us using the details below, and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
This website and our services are intended for businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices or the law change. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
